Google Tag Manager (GTM)

Google Tag Manager is a tool for managing tracking codes on a website without touching its code. It lets you easily deploy analytics and marketing scripts, track conversions and control data collection from a single interface.

Google Tag Manager (GTM for short) is a free tool from Google that lets you easily manage tracking codes and marketing tags on websites – without having to change the website’s source code directly.

Typical uses of GTM include:

  • Deploying Google Analytics or other analytics tools.
  • Conversion tracking (e.g. form submissions, purchases, button clicks).
  • Deploying marketing and remarketing scripts (e.g. Google Ads, Facebook Pixel, Sklik).
  • Managing events and conditions for firing scripts – for example only on certain pages, on certain user behavior, etc.
  • Fast and flexible tag management without a developer – changes are made directly in the user interface and published with a single click.

Why is GTM important?

Google Tag Manager saves time and reduces the cost of implementing tracking tools. It allows marketing teams, analysts and website administrators to work efficiently without having to contact developers again and again for every change or new script. With GTM, you can measure visitor behavior on your website more accurately and optimize your campaigns or content.
